Internet: This home has Wi-Fi.
Pets: This home does not permit pets.
Occupancy: Maximum 6 guests including children.
Turnover Day and Length of Stay: In summer season, this home is a Friday turnover and books for a minimum of 7 days. In shoulder season turnover days are flexible and the minimum length of stay is 3 days.
Bed Configuration: The house has three bedrooms, all on one level. The master bedroom has a queen bed with ensuite, and the other two bedrooms have double beds.
Location: This charming wheelchair accessible log home is situated on a private one acre on Seawright Road in the Sandpiper area of Hornby. This is just 1.5 km from the Co-op, the Ringside Market and Tribune Bay Provincial Park.
This property is a five minute walk to a waterfront access on the west side of Little Tribune Bay. Please note this access is down a steep trail to a rocky beach where you can walk to Little Tribune beach. Alternatively, Sandpiper Beach is a 15 minute walk along the road and is a gentle sloping accessible swimming/kayaking beach. The mountain trails of Mount Geoffrey are also very close by.
House Description: At the front of this one acre property is a stand of lovely mature trees, with the house situated in an open area to welcome the sun: a beautiful spot to relax with a book or visit with friends. The huge lawn and open woods invite children to explore and play around the area nearby.
Your family could have bocce and croquet going on all at once, while others play on the swing, climb the trees or explore the woods. Meanwhile you could be sitting on the deck minding the barbecue and enjoying your favorite beverage.
The home has a bathroom with a shower as well as an ensuite bathroom with a tub/shower combination. The country style eat-in fully equipped kitchen and separate dining room provides ample room for the whole family. There is also a propane barbeque if you wish to cook outside. In 2025 the owners installed a heat pump for both heating and air conditioning, updates to the kitchen and a new kitchen stove.
Water: The water is supplied by a well shared with the neighbour, therefore extreme water conservation is necessary. The water is good for cooking, washing dishes, bathing etc. For drinking you will be supplied with five gallons of water. The water container can be refilled from the Co-op Gas Bar or Ford’s Cove dispenser (for a small charge). The water can have an odor of sulphur when the Hornby Island water table is low.
Linens: In line with the water conservation efforts on the island, the guests are required to bring their own sheets, pillowcases, towels, and dishcloths. Comforters and pillows are provided.
Garbage and Recycling: As part of the Hornby Island experience you will be required to visit the Hornby Island Recycling Centre and dispose of your own garbage and recycling before the end of your stay. Refundable bottles and cans can be donated to the Hornby Island Preschool which uses the funds to support their programs.

Very disappointing and not as advertised. We were booked for 7 Nights in July. We stayed one night and left the next morning. Problems included: 1. Access to Tribune Bay The listing described the property as a short walk to Tribune Bay. In reality, while the distance may appear manageable, the route included a steep and hazardous cliff descent that required the use of fixed ropes. This was both physically challenging and potentially unsafe. 2. Location of Beach Access Contrary to the implication that Tribune Bay beach would be directly accessible on foot, the path ended at a rocky shoreline some distance away from the actual beach. Realistically, the only feasible access to the beach was by car, which introduced parking difficulties, especially in peak season. 3. Water Use Restrictions Upon arrival, we found signage indicating we should use the outhouse rather than the indoor toilet facilities, due to water limitations. Additionally, we were advised not to drink the tap water, though bottled water was provided. However, the tap water available for bathing had a strong sulphuric odour, rendering showers unpleasant. 4. Recycling and Waste Disposal Requirements We were surprised to learn that we were expected to transport our own waste and recycling to the island’s recycling depot. The sorting requirements—reportedly into 20 or more distinct categories—or a fee, created an undue burden for guests expecting a more streamlined experience. 5. Television and Connectivity The listing advertised the availability of Wi-Fi and television. At check-in, there was no functioning television. The property manager made efforts over many hours to install a smart TV, which allowed access to Netflix, but no conventional television programming was available. 6. When we brought these problems to the attention of the owners through an email, and then a follow-up email, we are not provided the courtesy of any response.
Thank you for the time you have taken to review your stay. We sincerely regret that your experience at this home did not meet your expectations. The owners who work with Wind and Waves take great pride in opening their homes to guests during the summer and do consider any suggestions for improvement. We do apologize for not acknowledging the last email that you sent to us a few weeks ago to let you know that we would reply when the owners returned from their trip to northern BC. The comfort and enjoyment of our guests remains our top priority, which is why we personally meet each guest to introduce them to the home, explain the surrounding area and activities on Hornby and answer any question they may have once they have arrived. We appreciate that you mentioned that there was a sign in the home regarding the use of the outhouse and Ray was happy to explain that both washrooms were fully operational. Wind and Waves will remove any signs/notices that are out of date in the home. We have updated the Act 5 website to clarify that it does not have cablevision. We have also reviewed the concerns you shared regarding the nearby beach access and updated the Act 5 webpage to include the type of trail and type of topography of the beach located at that access point and also added that there is another beach access (Sandpiper Beach) that is accessible and a fifteen minute walk along the road in the other direction with a short sloping path to a swimming and kayaking beach. Regarding your concern that it was a surprise that the guests were responsible for removing their own recycling and garbage when they leave, Wind and Waves includes this requirement in the rental agreement provided to the guest at the time of booking and again in the welcome emails sent to the guest prior to arriving. However, we do feel that it may be helpful to add this information to the webpage for each home so that any potential guest renting from Wind and Waves understands the guest expectations at the time they are considering the home. We will update all the home webpages to explain this for next season's bookings. Your comment regarding the Sulphur smell in the water when showering is something that can happen on Hornby when the water table gets unusually low as it has been this year. Wind and Waves will add an explanation regarding the water to the description of Act 5 that details that this situation can occur at certain times during the year. We do post all the reviews received on the Wind and Waves website. When a review is received, the booking site Wind and Waves uses does require an acknowledgement by Wind and Waves prior to publicly posting the review. It can take up to a week or so for us to respond to the reviews and have them go live, especially during the summer months. We value authentic feedback from our guests as it helps us maintain our high standards of service and we continue to strive to improve the guest experience each time. The owners of the homes that we manage also get copies of these reviews and work to improve their guests’ experience each year. Wind and Waves appreciates your feedback and will continue to work to ensure that the information provided on our website is as accurate and clear as possible. Thanks so much, Ray and Angela
This was an exceptional visit this year! Any questions we had Ray was right there to help! Love this place
We’ve stayed at Act 5 probably 7 times and it has worked out the best for our growing family. Lots of room and we are usually outside all day with lots of room for the dogs to sniff around as well
Thank you so much for your review.
